Movie about Paranoid Schizophrenia:
Scene1: Nathaniel fights going to Lamp even though it could benefit him, and Mr. Lopez. He stutters over words and keeps talking even if Mr. Lopez interrupts. He rarely makes eye contact as well, showing that there may be something wrong or perhaps a feel of inferiority to Mr. Lopez. Scene2: Flashbacks of fighting with Nathaniel's sister occur. He fights her over nothing but eating soup she made and starts forcing her to eat it instead. Throughout the scene he is also hearing voices saying things such as "I will protect you Nathaniel" which are supposedly the "voices in his head." This shows that there is a form of schizophrenia involved by how he is getting an illusion of his sister trying to hurt him and voices talking to him. Scene3: Because of the flashback with him fighting with his sister, Nathaniel starts to attack others at what would have been his Cello recital. This is harmful towards others as well as his own later ability to be seen as dangerous or able to work in society because of his schizophrenia. The voices also occur in this scene and Nathaniel runs away after nearly hitting someone in the head with a piece of wood with nails hammered in the end of it that he made himself. Scene4: Mr. Lopez is forced to help Nathaniel carry his cart to the orcestra recital. This makes him aggravated and lash out towards Nathaniel, but he later changes his mind and helps him carry the cart. Nathaniel is very attached to his cart and doesn't seem to trust anyone other than Mr. Lopez, who he later calls his "god."
The movie shows the many things that people with schizophrenia may have to go through. Not all the symptoms are shown, but many of them are. The voices illustrate how schizophrenias hear and may obey different things that we can't hear ourselves. It shows how it can cause stress and maybe even speaking troubles. They incorporate the attachment that schizos may gain because of their illness to objects such as carts as convulsions and the reactions of when that convulsion may be attempted at being taken away. Fighting scenes can be seen as the struggle between society and schizos and the hardships of keeping a job with the disorder.
However, the schizophrenic disorder in the movie could possibly be seen as a different type of schizophrenia than what is said the actual Nathaniel has. The symptoms given can be also seen as disorganized schizophrenia or another form of schizophrenia. They do, in the movie, show that Nathaniel is in fact diagnosed with schizophrenia as well, but they never mention what form unless you look into the movie details or documentary. Although it may not completely explain paranoid schizophrenia exactly, it was a very good movie which did inform descriptively of what some of the symptoms for schizophrenia are.
