Disorganized Schizophrenia is one of many forms of the mental illness schizophrenia. This form is characterized by illogical as well as incoherent thoughts and behaviors. It is a more severe type of schizophrenia because it may restrict you from doing every day activities by yourself such as, bathing and meal preparation. Others may not be able to understand what you're trying to say. This could anger you and you may lash out at others.

Symptoms Include

  • Disorganized Thinking.
  • Very Disorganized Behavior.
  • Absent/Inappropriate Emotional Expression.
  • Delusions.
  • Hallucinations (especially voices).
  • Social Isolation.

Causes

Currently it is not known what causes disorganized schizophrenia. It is thought that an interaction of genetics and environment may lead to the brain dysfunction that is believed to be related to disorganized schizophrenia. Imaging shows a different brain structure compaired to a regular human brain. Researchers are not sure about that the significance of this yet.

Treatments

  • Sociocultural- Links are established between thoughts, feelings, and actions in a collaborative and accepting recource.
  • Cognitive Behavioral- Working on beliefs, assessments of one's self, the world, and the nature of personal problems in the world affect how we perceive ourselves and others, how we approach problems, and ultimately how we are with coping with the world and in achieving our goals.
  • Biological- Antipsychotic drugs have been available since the 1950's. They reduce psychotic episodes and allow the user to act more efficiently and appropriately. They don't cure schizophrenia or ensure that there will be no longer be any psychotic episodes. It is said to be the most effective treatment out there.
